Maaliseeria valmis osana minu magistitööst, mille pealkiri on "Retk ebamugava tuttavlikkuse metsa", mis räägib mu kogemustest looduses, eelkõige sellega kontakti otsimisest.
Loodus pole hea ega halb. Sulandumine on võimatu. Eraldumine on näiline.
This series of paintings is a part of my master project "Expedition to the forest of uncomfortable familiarity" which focuses on my experiences in nature and foremost on getting in contact with nature. For me nature is an inner need as well as the source of discomfort. The paintings show the point of view of a person living in the city. The series is about the issues around nature – about pure enjoyment, about desire to become one with nature, about instincts, about not understanding, about fear, discomfort, itching and biting. About looking at the sea. I feel I have become detached from nature.
I see nature as uncanny – there is something that is also substantially characteristic to human beings; and at the same time there is something unfamiliar, creating fear, uneasiness and discomfort. Human beings interpret nature from their own position, they think in symbols – language, and their view of nature is filled with contradictions and contrasts. Humans beings have placed themselves outside of nature and also outside of the possibility to comprehend nature. Humans see nature through culture. But nature does not contradict human beings, thinking in symbols and contrasts is not the way of nature. Tranquillity and harmony, as well as unpleasantness are the conceptions human beings have about nature. This is not nature. Nature is not good or bad. The essence of nature as uncanny is undefinable and constanly changing. It is impossible to fully understand the logic and action mechanisms of nature. Human beings do not understand nature and never will, it is impossible. Also humans do not understand their place in nature. Becoming one with nature is impossible. Separation from nature is illusory.

205 x 160 cm, 2009, oil on canvas
This work is the starting point of the theme "reality".
Parallel worlds, parallel possibilities. I am interested in how people see the world, and how it is possible to see the world around me from different perspectives. If that is possible.
